Vacancy: Viewing Committee Member Festival 2025

The Movies that Matter programme team is looking for an experienced viewing committee member for the thematic sections Take on Future and Take on Love. The viewing committee falls under the management of the programmer and plays an essential role in putting together an innovative and interesting film programme for the annual Movies that Matter Festival.

The position is on a freelance basis and runs from September to December 2024.

Job description
  • You will watch and evaluate a minimum of 60 feature length movies that matter in the period September to December. The documentary and fiction films will be assigned to the committee member by the programmer.
  • You will meet online +/- 4 times with other committee members and the programmer to discuss the films watched and evaluated.
  • You are available to attend the Movies that Matter Festival (end of March in The Hague).
Job requirements
  • You work in the film industry (in the Netherlands or abroad), and professionally viewing and assessing films is part of your job.
  • You have good written and verbal communication skills in Dutch or English.
  • Preferably, you are well versed in human rights and social issues.

The opportunity to be part of a diverse international group of committee members, and be a key link in the creation of the Movies that Matter Festival film programme. The position is on a freelance basis with a fixed fee per film evaluated and attended online meeting.


The viewing committee operates online and is not tied to a location. Film professionals from all over the world are invited to respond to this position. 

Time and period 

The viewing committee operates between September and December each year. Most films are to be watched in October and November.
