Movies that Matter x The Climate Story Lab

Special “Climate Justice” Edition

Movies that Matter is excited for a special “Climate Justice” edition, which we are delighted to host together with DocSociety’s Climate Story Lab and the Interactive Media Foundation through their project Not Just Celsius

We will be amplifying the inspiring and passionate work of two youth-led NGOs – the World’s Youth For Climate Justice (WYCJ) and the Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change (PISFCC). Together these NGOs have led a groundbreaking campaign to bring the issue of climate change and human rights to the International Court of Justice in the Hague. Those of you who attended our opening night on March 22nd have already witnessed WYCJ’s Mert Kumru delivering his powerful speech on the importance of youth fighting to get heard.

Across this special two-day event, we will come together and discuss climate justice through the legal lens and explore the power of story in creating change. In the evenings, we will showcase four carefully curated films that draw attention to this urgent topic, and during the day the Climate Justice Story Lab wil bring together key players working in the climate justice space. We are thrilled to be showing you our contribution of excellent storytelling and serving viable food for thought!

What is a Climate Justice Story Lab?

The Climate Story Lab is a space for climate litigators, storytellers, campaigners from NGOs and foundations as well as for journalists, activists and scientists alike. Looking at the opportunities of using the law in advancing climate justice and also its threats. Looking at the different perspectives of climate justice, e.g. the rights of nature movement, decolonisation – not only historic but also the manifested financial and economic structures in place that hinder climate justice and decolonisation. And we ask the questions, what role do storytellers play in this field? What kind of narratives and messages, what kind of activation is needed to get the wider audience on board?

Spaces for this unique 2-day event are limited and by invitation only but please get in contact with Vivian Schröder of the Interactive Media Foundation by May 10th for participation and if you’d like more information.

Where

We needed to be near the water and to see the horizon to be able to take in the whole world for this global issue. Hence, our event is happening at the beach in Scheveningen @ Hart Beach! Put your feet in the sand in the here and now and put your mind to the future!
