Now in Cinemas: Las consecuencias

40-year-old Fabiola, her father César and her teenage daughter Gabi hold each other captive in a web of love, family ties and secrets new and old. Beautifully understated, intuitive feature film, subtly but poignantly addressing trauma and sexual abuse.

Fabiola (Juana Acosta) is traumatized by a scuba diving accident during which her husband was killed. To try to escape her panic attacks, she decides to spend some time in a house her family owns on a small volcanic island off the Spanish coast. It is the house where she spent the first seven years of her life, before her parents suddenly departed. Her father César, who left Fabiola and her mother when she was young, and her 14-year-old daughter Gabi accompany her.

On the island, Fabiola senses something wrong in the relationship between her father and Gabi (an incredible María Romanillos making her debut). But is her feeling justified, or is it just her paranoia? Over the course of a few days, Fabiola slowly descends into a spiral of mistrust and confusion. She has to re-evaluate all her memories and is forced to shed a whole new light on her past and that of her family.

The film was previously shown at the Movies that Matter Festival 2022.
