Movies that Matter Festival 2021

  • When does the festival take place?

    The festival will take place from Friday April 16 to Sunday April 25, 2021.

  • Where does the festival take place?

    The Movies that Matter Festival 2021 takes place online. You can only visit the festival online, provided you have a Dutch IP address.

    In the preparation we focused on a festival on location and online. We hoped to welcome you in The Hague, traditionally our festival heart. But it was not to be. Fortunately, the online festival can continue.

  • When do ticket sales start?

    Ticket sales start in the evening of Thursday April 1.

  • Where can I find information about ticket sales and prices?

  • How do I visit the Movies that Matter Festival 2021?

    You can watch our online programme from home (with a Dutch IP address).

    In the programme overview you can see when and how each film can be seen. During the festival, Online Live screenings take place at a fixed time and you can also watch On Demand films that are available online for 80 hours at a time. Select your screening of your choice and order a ticket via our website.

  • When will the full programme be announced?

    The full film programme will be announced before the ticket sales start in the evening of April 1. Some Q&A’s and talks may still be added to the programme in the following week.

  • When will the festival newspaper be published?

    Our festival newspaper will be published on 1 April as an insert to the Trouw newspaper.

    Newsletter subscribers who have registered to receive the festival newspaper at home will receive it shortly after April 1. Please note that the festival newspaper is in Dutch.

  • How do I stay up to date on festival news?

    You can use the TimeSquare app for a current timetable. Download the app in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store

  • Can I sign up as a volunteer this year?

    Certainly! We are currently looking for volunteers for the online version of the festival. Here you will find more information about volunteering and the registration form.

  • Can I watch the online festival programme outside The Netherlands?

    Due to the international rights of the films, the online film screenings of Movies that Matter can only be viewed from a Dutch IP address.

    Our Shorts that Matter as well as programmes without films (such as masterclasses) can be watched worldwide.

  • Do all films have subtitles?

    Most Movies that Matter films are subtitled. The subtitle language differs per movie. Each film webpage states which languages ​​are spoken in the movie and which subtitles are available.

    The available subtitles are also indicated in our programme overview and you can filter accordingly.

  • I am a filmmaker. How do I submit my film?

    From 1 June 2021 you can submit your film for the Movies that Matter Festival 2022.

  • My question has not been answered, how can I reach you?

    For all your questions you can also contact our online help-desk, click on the chat window at the bottom left of your screen. Our support team is daily available in the chat from April 16th, in the meantime you can send us an e-mail via the chat window and we will come back to you as soon as possible.
