We have collected a list of frequently asked questions with regards to tickets for you.   • When will ticket sales start for the festival?

    Ticket sales start in the evening of Thursday April 1, 2021.

  • Where can I buy tickets

    You can buy tickets online as of Thursday evening 1 April via our website. Go to the programme overview and click on ‘Tickets’ for the film you want to see.

  • What is the ticket price for an online film screening?

    A ticket for an online film screening costs € 7,50.

  • Are there also free programmes?

    Yes, there are also a number of programmes that are available for free this year, amongst others our workshops & masterclasses. These are indicated with the label ‘free of charge’ in the programme overview.

    Please note: You still have to purchase a ticket for this programme. Click on ‘Tickets’ at the desired programme and choose the ticket type ‘MtMF21 Gratis’ in the shopping cart to be able to visit the programme.

  • How do I buy a ticket?

    You can buy tickets via our website. Go to the programme overview and click on ‘Tickets’ for the desired film.

    • You see the different screenings appear per film. Choose from an Online Live screening at a fixed time or an Online On Demand film that you can see within the 80 hours of availability. Some films are only offered On Demand or only Live. Click on the relevant button with the time.
    • You will be transferred to our ticket sales system and you will then need to log in. Is it the first time that you want to order a ticket? In that case you have to create an account with your name and e-mail address. Important: The e-mail address you provide will be your personal access. You will receive all your e-tickets via this e-mail address and you can only watch the films via the same e-mail address. You cannot buy a ticket for someone else via your e-mail address!
    • You will see your chosen screening appear in the shopping cart. You can add your ticket here, apply a discount code if you have one, choose other films and then pay. Note: You can buy a maximum of 1 ticket per online screening!
    • You can pay with iDeal, Visa and Mastercard.
    • You will receive your e-ticket via the e-mail address you provided and you can then watch the film online.
  • Can I buy multiple tickets?

    Due to online viewing, it is not possible to purchase multiple tickets for the same film screening. You can therefore order a maximum of 1 ticket per film per e-mail address.

  • Can I give tickets as a gift?

    Due to online viewing, it is not possible to give tickets as a gift. The email address you provide when ordering is your personal access, you will receive all your e-tickets by email at this email address and you can only watch the films via the same email address. So you cannot buy a ticket for someone else or give a ticket as a gift with your e-mail address.

  • I can choose between a Live or an On Demand ticket. What is the difference?

    The Online Live screenings are a timed screening, something similar to an online screening room: everybody is watching at the same time. You have to open the stream at the right moment to join. You cannot rewind or restart the film. There is a chatroom and whenever possible a live, interactive Q&A with the filmmaker. With an Online Live ticket you will not be able to watch the film On Demand later – you need an On Demand ticket for this.

    On Demand films may be started at any moment in the 80 hours that they are available. So this could be much later than the date and time you bought your ticket. Please note: if the film lasts longer than the time still available, then you can finish watching but you can not restart after the period has ended. So you cannot refresh your page or re-open the stream if there is a technical issue. With an On Demand ticket you cannot watch the Online Live screening live.

  • I have purchased an Online Live ticket. Can I also watch the film on demand after the live screening?

    It is not possible to watch the film on demand after the live screening with an Online Live ticket. To watch on demand, you have to purchase a separate On Demand ticket.

  • Which payment methods do you offer?

    You can pay online with iDeal, Visa and Mastercard.

  • Can I buy a ticket without creating an account?

    To buy a ticket via our website, you need an account. For this you only need to enter your name and email address.

  • Can I also buy a multi-ticket (strippenkaart) this year?

    No, there is no multi-ticket (strippenkaart) for the online Movies that Matter Festival this year.

  • I would like to support the Movies that Matter Festival, can I also pay more?

    Thank you for wanting to make an extra contribution!

    Normally, visitors often buy two or more tickets to go to a movie in the cinema with others. This is of course different with an online festival. You buy one ticket and watch the movie at home alone, as a couple or with even more people. As a result, we as a festival lose the income we need to be able to continue offering programmes about human rights.

    In the ticket ordering process you can support the Movies that Matter Festival with an extra contribution. Thank you very much for this!

  • I have received a promotional code. How can I apply it?

    Follow this step-by-step plan to use your promotional code:

    • Click on ‘Tickets’ for the desired movie.
    • You then log in to use your promotional code.
    • In the shopping cart, click on ‘Do you want to enter a promotional code?’. You enter your code here and click on ‘import’.
    • You will now see the card type ‘free ticket’ appear.
    • Click on ‘order’ and then on ‘pay’.
    • You will receive an e-ticket by email.
  • Can an online screening also be sold out?

    Yes, that’s possible: a maximum number of tickets are available for each screening. For each film, Movies that Matter makes agreements with the distributors about how the film will be shown during the festival. There are restrictions to this. For the same reasons that the online films are not available worldwide, we therefore have a maximum number of views per screening.

    So make sure to buy your ticket on time via the programme overview to reserve your spot.

  • Normally I show my e-ticket at the cinema. How can I access the online programme now?

    When you buy a ticket, you will receive your e-ticket at the email address you provided. With the login details you used to buy the ticket, you can watch the film online via the website.

    • Log in to your account by clicking on the account symbol on the right of the browser. Our ticket system uses your login details from your purchase to perform the ticket check, so make sure to log in with the same credentials to be able to watch the movie.
    • Navigate to the film detail page to watch the film or check your available tickets in your account history
  • I bought a ticket for an online movie. When can I start the stream now? And can I still get in if it has already started?

    For Online Live screenings, you can open the stream 20 minutes before the start. You can also open the stream after the movie has started. But be aware that the film will not start again, so you will miss the beginning.

    On demand movies are available for a total of 80 hours, you can choose when you start watching during the available period. Note: if the movie takes longer than the time you have available, you can watch the movie but not restart the stream when the time has expired. So you cannot refresh your browser or reopen the stream if you have a technical problem.

  • Can I also watch the online festival programme outside the Netherlands if I buy a ticket?

    Movies that Matter’s online film screenings can only be viewed from a Dutch IP address. This has to do with the international rights of the films.

    However, our Shorts that Matter as well as programmes without films (such as masterclasses) can be watched worldwide.

  • I have bought a ticket but I have not yet received a confirmation by email. What should I do?

    If you have not received an e-ticket, please make sure to check your spam as well. Add tickets@moviesthatmatter.nl to your trusted contacts so that you receive the next e-mails.

    Did you not receive the e-ticket as spam? Send an email to tickets@moviesthatmatter.nl. Indicate in your email for which screening (film title, date and time) you have purchased a ticket. We will get in touch with you as soon as possible.

  • Is there an online help desk? And what are the opening times?

    You can ask questions via the website chat (bottom left of your browser window) or send an email to tickets@moviesthatmatter.nl. Up until the festival starts you can reach us by sending an e-mail via the chat, we will get in touch with you as soon as possible. For technical questions please refer to support@moviesthatmatter.nl.

    Our support team is available daily via the chat from 16 – 25 April between 09:00 – 23:00 hrs.
