The Sakharov Prize 2023 was awarded to Jina Mahsa Amini and the Iranian protest movement ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ – Zan, Zendegi, Azadi!

On Wednesday 27 March, Movies that Matter will host the annual Sakharov Special in Theater aan het Spui, Grote Zaal. 

This year we present a special programme dedicated to the Iranian women’s movement and the Iranian women in exile. 

Farah Karimi (1960, Iran) will give an opening speech. Farah was an activist during the Iranian Revolution (1979), and learned her greatest life lesson: major upheavals are possible if the population takes action from the bottom up. She came to the Netherlands as a political refugee from Iran in 1989 and has been a member of the GroenLinks-PvdA faction in the Senate since June 2023. She already was a member of the Representatives from 1998 to 2006. Farah has ample experience in the field of international cooperation and human rights.
