HUMAN presents: Searching for Nika

The screening of Searching for Nika will be followed by a discussion with journalist and Ukraine reporter Michiel Driebergen and Kateryna Kyrsta, IFAW project manager. Moderation by HUMAN editor Ineke van der Hurk.

Michiel Driebergen (1980) is a freelance journalist and correspondent in Central and Eastern Europe for Trouw and NPO Radio 1 (Bureau Buitenland), among others. He began his career as an editor and reporter at VPRO Radio 1, and then worked for a decade as an editor at NCRV Radio 1 (Casa Luna). Since 2013, he has worked as a correspondent, based successively in Lviv (Ukraine), Krakow (Poland) and Kharkiv (Ukraine). For his work as a reporter on the war in Ukraine, he was nominated for the journalism prize De Tegel in 2023. For his podcast “City at War, Charkiv, one year under fire,” he won the Silver Travel Microphone in 2023.

Kateryna Kyrsta works from IFAW’s office in The Hague and manages the Ukraine Rescue team – overseeing all project activities and grant agreements that are geared towards helping both companion and wild animals in need. Kateryna holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and has extensive experience in finance and agribusiness. Before she joined IFAW in October 2022, she had been working at the World Bank Group on introducing new financing tools for farmers in Ukraine. 

Ineke van der Hurk is NPO 3FM social editor at Broadcaster HUMAN. She also presents the 3FM HUMAN podcast “in het hoofd van.” Before joining HUMAN, she studied film at the University of Amsterdam and The University of Kent.
