New Year Baby

Director Socheata Poeuv was born on New Year's Day in a Thai refugee camp. Her parents survived Pol Pot's Red Khmer genocide and resettled in the United States. Twenty five years later, during Christmas, Socheata's parents reveal a secret.

When Socheata travels back to Cambodia with her family for the first time, she tries to make her usually reserved parents talk. Bit by bit her parents reveal a long preserved secret suppressed by the horrors they experienced in Cambodia. (AIFF2007)
