Films that Make Noise:
Alles moet beter + Tra Fasi

Together with The Hague music venue PAARD, we present Films that Make Noise: a series of provocative protest films exploring the connection between music and social change. On Friday 24 April, it’s time for the fourth screening in the series: Alles moet beter, which premiered during the festival, alongside the short film Tra Fasi.

Tra Fasi by Charity Charly explores Suriname’s alternative punk and rock scene, with artist Shavero at its centre. The film follows his journey as he tries to build and strengthen an alternative music community in Suriname.

Alles Moet Beter (Do Better) by Dikla Zeidler follows three young people diversely impacted by worsening institutional failure, and their search to change things for the better. Accompanied by protest music by, amongst others, Dutch bands Hang Youth, Ploegendienst, Sef and Sophie Straat, their individual actions, from protest to politics, combine in one urgent plea: Do better!

After the screening, moderator Jesse Evers will join both directors in conversation. The films will be shown with English subtitles; the post-screening discussion will also be in English.

On Tour: Soldier's Bones

With Movies that Matter On Tour, we bring impactful favourites from the festival to 16 cinemas across the country, complete with an in-depth accompanying programme. In May, the selected film is Soldier’s Bones.

In 1971, young Newsweek reporter Alec Shimkin discovered a secret US military campaign that committed war crimes on an enormous scale in the Mekong Delta. It was code-named Operation Speedy Express. Following the 1968 My Lai massacre on Vietnamese civilians, Alec believed this “Super My Lai” also had to be exposed.
