Film Screenings at Dutch Embassies Worldwide

10 December marks Human Rights Day, commemorating the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

At Movies that Matter, we honoured this day through what we do best: sharing powerful human rights stories on screen. Together with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we present the annual Embassy Film Menu. A selection of five impactful festival films, available for screening at Dutch embassies worldwide.

This year, over 60 embassies took part, hosting more than 75 screenings around 10 December!

Tips from Grantees #1

What’s the one piece of advice you’d share with someone organising a human rights film festival?

We posed this question to our past grantees: experienced organisers who’ve navigated the challenges, triumphs, and unexpected moments that come with creating spaces for powerful human rights stories. Since 2007, we’ve supported 381 festivals worldwide, and now we’re sharing their best tips in a brand-new series. Every other month, we’ll tackle a new theme, from planning and programming to promotion and more.

Kicking things off, we’re starting with the foundation of every great event: your team. From building trust to defining roles and keeping morale high, here’s how to create your festival dream team.

Recap: HRFN Brunch

We were thrilled to welcome an impressive gathering of festival representatives, filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals at the Human Rights Film Network Network Brunch at IDFA this past November. The room was buzzing with conversations, new connections, and shared passion for human rights cinema. Couldn’t make it to IDFA this year, but still hoping to reach out to one of the members? You can find more information about all member festivals on the HRFN website. We’d love to stay connected!
