On 15 August, Studio Kafunda and Movies that Matter bring Kafunda Film Fest to the Marineterrein in Amsterdam: two films followed by panel discussions. In between the two screenings, Sudanese artist Razeen will perform songs from his recently released debut album Yallah Nargus.
For its first edition, Kafunda Film Fest brings together two films in dialogue, with the second responding to a question raised by the first. In Stop Filming Us, Dutch filmmaker Joris Postema questions his position in Goma as the storyteller of a story that is not his own. In Talking About Trees, Sudanese director Suhaib Gasmelbari tells the story of his own country: four veterans who, under repression, reopen a closed-air cinema to reclaim their film culture.
