Studio Kafunda x Movies that Matter at the Marineterrein
Who gets to tell the story of a culture, and from whose perspective? Studio Kafunda and Movies that Matter present two films at the Marineterrein in Amsterdam, with the second offering an answer to the question raised by the first.
In Stop Filming Us, winner of the Movies that Matter Festival Award, Dutch filmmaker Joris Postema reflects on his position as a storyteller in Goma, questioning what it means to tell a story that is not his own. This question ultimately led to the creation of Studio Kafunda: a platform dedicated to sharing cultures through the eyes of the people who live them. Talking About Trees does exactly that. Sudanese director Suhaib Gasmelbari tells the story of his own country through four veteran filmmakers who, under an oppressive regime, set out to reopen a long-closed open-air cinema and reclaim Sudan’s film culture.

This event is part of the free Summer Programme at the Marineterrein and takes place at Schietbaan Pleintje, next to Kometen Brood Loket.
