Students’ Choice Dutch premiere

The utopian life of the free-spirited Badir family in the Lebanese mountains is disrupted when a garbage dump is built right outside their house. This causes tensions within the family: should they resist, sue, sabotage, or move back to Beirut? Beautiful and gentle drama with delicious ensemble performances.

The Badir family lives off the grid in their idyllic home in the mountains of Lebanon. Soraya, who used to be a famous singer, her husband Walid, their two daughters and eccentric grandmother Zeina keep chickens and grow their own food. Nothing reminds them of the pollution and social unrest plaguing Beirut, the city they escaped eight years ago.

But this all changes when a group of men starts building a garbage dump next to their home. Walid is furious and vows to defend their lifestyle, but Soraya thinks that returning to Beirut might be the best idea. Meanwhile, 17-year-old daughter Tala is developing a crush on Tarek, the good-looking official overseeing the project, and young and energetic Rim turns increasingly vocal in her resistance. When the landfill is beginning to threaten their health and livelihood, they may run out of options.
