Colombia in My Arms

Jenni Kivistö, Jussi Rastas

Visually strong documentary about Colombia after the peace agreement between the government and the FARC guerrilla’s. Will the fragile peace deal survive the distrust and rancour built up by decades of war? With elections coming up, some politicians hope to gain from exploiting the tensions even further.

When in 2016 the Colombian government reaches a peace agreement with the biggest left-wing guerrilla group FARC, the promise of ‘a new Colombia’ is on the horizon. But it soon turns out to be very hard to rise above decades of war and pain.

With a calm and poetic cinematography, Colombia in My Arms tells the story from different perspectives. The guerrilla’s in the woods, preparing to hand in their weapons and trying to accept that their fight will be a political one from now on. The ‘old money’ elites, who shudder at the thought of FARC gaining power. The political establishment, cynically exploiting tensions in society for their own political gain. And the workers on the coca fields, summing it all up by saying: ‘The chaos starts at the top, not at the bottom.’
