On Tour: Facing War
With Movies that Matter On Tour, we bring festival favourites to seventeen cinemas throughout the Netherlands. In October, we kick off the new season with the documentary Facing War, winner of the Grand Jury Documentary Award at the Movies that Matter Festival 2025.
About the Film
A political documentary with a unique inside look at NATO’s leadership during Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine. As Western unity wavers, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg extends his tenure for one final year, vowing to support President Zelensky “for as long as it takes.” But with NATO decisions requiring unanimity, his promise is tested by deepening divisions among allies.
Listen to the Podcast
In the brand new Movies that Matter podcast we dive deep into the stories, people and human rights issues behind the films screened at our festival. In this first episode we share a conversation with Tommy Gulliksen, the director of Facing War, recorded live in The Hague at our 2025 festival. The conversation was moderated by Nicole Sprokel, former Senior Political Affairs Officer at Amnesty International Netherlands.
