A shocking tale about the search for justice and revenge. When her Kurdish husband Nuri and her young son Rocco are killed in a nail bomb attack in Hamburg, Katja’s life is destroyed. While she grieves, the police bombard her with questions. Was it a terrorist attack, was it crime-related? Were the perpetrators Nazi’s or Turks? Did it have anything to do with Nuri’s previous life as a drug dealer?

When two suspects are arrested and the court trial begins, Katja has to face the people she is certain killed her husband and child. Katja, intensely played by Diane Kruger, is determined to have justice done, either inside or outside of the courtroom. Aus dem Nichts is both a courtroom drama and a thrilling revenge story, and its shocking conclusion resonates strongly. The film, by German-born director of Turkish origin Fatih Akin (Gegen die Wand, The Edge of Heaven), won the 2018 Golden Globe for best foreign film.
