Delegation Screening: South Africa

This exclusive screening offers a unique opportunity to discover powerful new projects from South Africa. Each presentation will be followed by a short Q&A, allowing the audience to engage directly with the creators. This screening will be moderated by Rehad Desai.

We are honored to welcome a delegation of talented filmmakers and producers from South Africa to this year’s festival. As part of their visit, they will take part in a full festival programme and host this special screening to showcase their latest work.

The following projects will be presented:

Unsung Community Heroes by Carol Pam Zokufa (Zokufa Media Productions)
Lillian Cingo deserves to be taking it easy. The 85-year-old internationally acclaimed neurological nurse and psychologist reached the summit of success many years ago. But instead of resting on her laurels, she believes she is still climbing the foothills of service, to her nursing profession and to South Africa’s communities.

The story is a documentary based on known historical facts. Christopher Truter, 15, a high school student was shot in the head by police on 25 August 1976. He was rushed to hospital an kept in ICU. However, he died six days later. He was the first coloured student to die on the Cape Flats. He was not part of any protests but watching events from a field opposite a high school where students were protesting – an innocent bystander.

Makati by Zama Msibi (Lihlikhono Community Development)
Basil Fani Msibi, known as “Makati,” emerged as a fearless commander in the struggle for the liberation of Black people in apartheid-era South Africa. Leading the MK forces in Northern Natal, Makati’s heroic actions became emblematic of the ANC’s decision to take up arms when their pleas for change fell on deaf ears. This gripping documentary chronicles Makati’s remarkable journey, from the daring attack on Osizweni Police Station to explosive moments at Newcastle Court and Glencore railway station in Dundee.
