Forgotten Roads

Nicol Ruiz Benavides

After her husband dies, Claudina moves in with her daughter. There she falls in love with world-wise Elsa, living next door. But when the villagers start to gossip, Claudina’s daughter threatens to kick her out. Beautifully filmed Chilean love story, and a tender portrait of a woman rediscovering her love.

70-year-old Claudina has to cope with the death of her husband. Living alone in the Chilean countryside, she also has to prepare for her eviction because she can’t afford to pay her house anymore. She goes to live with her daughter Alejandra and grandson Christobal, and becomes friends with their sophisticated neighbour Elsa. Elsa is married, but her husband is away from home most of the time.

Soon, Claudina and Elsa fall in love, and Claudina is happier than she has ever been. But people in the small-minded village start to talk, much to the dismay of Alejandra. Claudina proudly lives her new life, refusing to hide who she is, but at the same time starts to wonder if she wouldn’t be better off somewhere else.
