Mount Gariwang, once celebrated for its Winter Olympics role, vowed to revive its forest after the games. But years later, scars linger — on the mountain’s beauty, the people, and their hopes.

Impact Statement

“The Winter Olympics have been conducted unsustainably for years. By focusing on South Korea’s Winter Olympics and the fate of Mount Gariwangsan, we aim to shed light on the environmental consequences of mega-events. Our goal is to foster understanding of these issues, encourage caution in activities during the global environmental crisis, and inspire change. We are currently collaborating with Korean environmental group “Good friends of nature” to expand the knowledge about this issue around the country and potentially revive the mountain .”

Goal at Take on Film & Impact

“Our primary goals at Movies that Matter are to meet potential co-producers, sales agents, and festival representatives. We aim to collaborate with NGOs or partners who share our vision. As part of our discussion on the upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy, we hope to connect with European activists and partners who can help expand the reach and impact of our film across Europe.”

Komeil Soheili is a filmmaker and producer and the co-founder of Yooran Film, an independent film company. Over the years, he has collaborated with several global networks and won awards such as United Nation FF award and the Golden Kapok Award (GZDocs). Additionally, Komeil has authored an instructional book on cinema and a book about his ethnographic travels across the world. Komeil also participated as a jury member for several film festivals, including the Busan International Short FF.

Jooyoung Soheili (Kim) is a filmmaker and producer deeply dedicated to addressing social issues. For more than seven years, she served as a lecturer in animation at one of Korea’s premier animation schools. Her animations have been featured on South Korea’s mainstream TV channels and showcased at various international film festivals, including the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Since 2019, she has successfully produced multiple award-winning documentaries, skillfully integrating her animation expertise into the realm of documentary filmmaking. Additionally, she has contributed as a jury member for esteemed film festivals such as the Sedicisorto Film Festival and the Asia Peace Film Festival.
