Justice in the Land of Fog
Laura Dauden & Kristie Robinson
Logline
As Colombia struggles toward peace, a journalist’s probe into the country’s justice system uncovers a dirty war against human rights defenders. Her journey intertwines with a poetic retrospective of women who were incarcerated for defending their ideals.
Impact Statement
“We want Justice in the Land of Fog to achieve the following: 1. Generate public debate about judicial set-ups, through alternative screenings and working with partner non-profits, academics, and the Truth Commission. 2. Catalyze legal reforms in Colombia around protest rights, working with legal bodies and human rights organizations. 3. Support those impacted by judicial set-ups, building a website with a register of cases, a guide for activists with key information on safety and security, as well as contacts of lawyers and allies. 4. Support the protagonists, including security and emotional support during the production stage itself. 5. Strengthen democratic institutions and independent media, to ensure continued scrutiny on those in power.”

Goal at Take on Film & Impact
“Overall we want to use our presence at Movies that Matter to build our network and make contacts for partnerships, as well as find potential funders for our impact campaign – and for the film itself.
More specifically, we want to establish alliances with organisations that can help to make visible and protect the victims of judicial setups and their families, who may not only lose (or have already lost) their freedom but also have their physical integrity threatened outside of jail.
Another current objective is to secure financial support for the continuation of the journalistic investigation into judicial setups being developed by journalist Juanita Velez under the supervision of Maria Teresa Ronderos from the independent media outlet El Clip. This work, besides being extremely delicate, is critical for understanding the issue and protecting the women who are being criminalised.
In this regard, some of the organisations with which we would like to establish contact, should they be present, are: Luminate, Doc Society, Open Society, IMS, Fritt Ord, Frontline Defenders, Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, Amnesty International, Iris, Pulitzer Center, and Reporters Without Borders.
Finally, we are looking for co-producers, broadcasters and sales agents.”
