Special

Activist Night

Face to face with today’s heroes! On the festive Activist Night, Tuesday 24 March at 20:00 in Theater aan het Spui, all activists and directors from the Activist Lens competition will be honoured and put in the spotlight.

Activist Lens is one of the festival’s main programmes and focuses on human rights defenders. It features eight documentaries about activists, all of whom will be guests at the festival for Q&As and meetings. This year, we welcome activists from Iran, Uganda, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Norway, Hungary, Kenya and Kyrgyzstan.

For the filmmakers and activists, this is more than just a festival. The activists participate in an intensive networking programme to increase the impact of their work. With the Activist Outreach programme, we encourage film screenings in the activists’ countries of origin with a financial contribution.

Cutting Through Rocks

The evening will be opened by Dewi van de Weerd, ambassador International Cultural Cooperation at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After the screening of the documentary Cutting Through Rocks, presenter Bahram Sadeghi will talk with directors Sara Khaki and Mohammadreza Eyni.

After the screening, DJ Final Cut—who only plays at film festivals!—also known as Khalid Shamis, will take over the decks in the foyer of Theater aan het Spui.
