FNV presents: Union
With FNV, we present a special screening of the film Union, about a group of current and former Amazon employees in New York. They take on one of the largest and most powerful companies in the world to form a union. After the film, we will talk further with activists from the FNV.
In the panel, we will discuss with 3 activists, Abdel Ben Touhami, Cihan Ugural and Levin Zühlke-van Hulzen, how this struggle is also taking place in the Netherlands in the distribution centres of, among others, Lidl and Albert Heijn. Moderation by Marten van den Berge.
Abdel Ben Touhami has been living in Utrecht for 48 years and has been working in a Lidl Netherlands distribution centre as a goods receipt inspector since 2005. Abdel is a trade union activist and is committed to improving the labour situation for himself and his Lidl colleagues through trade union FNV. He is also active in various international trade union projects to also organise across borders with trade union colleagues, including in the international palm oil production chain with trade union colleagues in Colombia and Indonesia
Cihan Ugural is campaign leader at FNV. Both inside and outside FNV he is always active in organising people: workers, migrants and migrant workers.
Levin Zühlke-van Hulzen is FNV Administrator for Albert Heijn’s distribution centres. Levin conducts negotiations with the company and organises the workers: full-timers and part-timers in direct employment and temporary workers.
Marten van den Berge is an international policy advisor and trainer at FNV. Outside the union, he is involved in the broader solidarity movement, queer activism and themes around decolonisation.
