After the screening of Facing War, moderator Nicole Sprokel (Senior Political Affairs Officer at Amnesty International) will engage in a conversation with the film’s director Tommy Gulliksen.
This screening and programme are private for ministry staff.
Tommy Gulliksen has a long track record as a documentary maker and has followed Jens Stoltenberg for several years. He studied journalism at the University of Oslo. He is best known for his award-winning documentary trilogy about the devastating terrorist attack on the Norwegian island of Utøya on 22 July 2011. Gulliksen’s other works include the documentary series ‘Da vi styrte landet’, in which he portrayed six Norwegian prime ministers. Together with other filmmakers, he founded the production company Norsk Fjernsyn AS in Oslo in 2013. With the company, he co-produced the award-winning documentary ‘Liberation Day’. Gulliksen’s first own film documentary ‘War of Art’ is thematically linked to ‘Liberation Day’. Besides his work as a producer and director, Tommy Gulliksen has been a lecturer in journalism at the University of Oslo since 2003.
Nicole Sprokel worked for Amnesty International for over 22 years, as senior political affairs officer and before that as press officer and spokesperson. Earlier, she was an investigative journalist at the broadcaster. Her special focus is on countries such as Russia and China that for years were at the forefront of the trend of increasing autocracy and repression, a trend that is now widespread and leads to restrictions on human rights and the erosion of democratic rule of law worldwide. After leaving Amnesty (December 2024), she became politically active. From this perspective, she thinks about Dutch policy on human rights, democracy and the rule of law in general, and strategies to reverse the autocratic trend in particular.
