At the Cannes Film Festival, GIRL won a number of different prizes. Debut director Lukas Dhont was awarded the prestigious Camera d’Or award, while young leading actor Victor Polster won the award for Best Performance in Un Certain Regard. The international press awarded GIRL with the Prix FIPRESCI, and the film also won the Queer Palm. At its world premiere during the Cannes Film Festival, the film was celebrated with a standing ovation that lasted minutes.
