Kaleidoscopic impression of the 2016 US presidential election, seen through the lens of Russian propaganda channels. Starring the talented Donald Trump, Man of Peace, and the mad and murderous ‘Killary’ Clinton, bewitched by a Mummy Princess.
‘Our editorial policy is based on love of Russia,’ Dmitry Kiselyov, head of Russia’s government-owned news organization Rossiya Segodnya, tells his employees. No more objective journalism, he proclaims. ‘Journalism is a tool that can be used to create values, to define what’s good and bad.’
In Our new President, comprised fully of clips from Russian television and internet channels, we see what Kiselyov’s vision of journalism amounts to: conspiracy theories, lies, and fake news in the true sense of the term. Hillary Clinton is a fraud and a murderer, both physically and mentally ill since she visited a Siberian Mummy Princess in 1997. Donald Trump is a larger-than-life superhero, cracking the rotten system for the good of the people. Winning the election despite massive Democratic fraud, and working for global peace despite demonstrations by groups of paid actors. With some homophobia and racism thrown in for good measure by the commentators. Like when Barack Obama was said to be ‘waving his hands like he was in the jungle’ during his Oval Office meeting with Trump. Our new President is a bewildering experience, at times hilarious, but mostly terrifying.
