The Tribunal

Goran Duric, a former Yugoslav army commander, is charged with the deportation and killing of Bosnian Muslims in Kasmaj, a town in today’s Republika Srpska. Hannah Maynard is involved in the trial against Duric as a prosecutor at the International Criminal Court in the Hague. After one of the main witnesses gives contradictory evidence, a court delegation travels to Kasmaj to find out what happened there. They soon find out that the main witness, who commits suicide shortly afterwards, was not telling the truth. Reluctant to drop the investigation, Hannah goes to his funeral in Sarajevo, where she meets his sister Mira. Mira knows more and Hannah asks her to testify. Shortly before the hearing, Duric’ lawyers attempt to invalidate Mira’s statement, and their request is, unexpectedly, acceded to by the judges. Realizing that she is caught between two fires, Hannah goes to battle against the dark side of justice.
