Amelia is an award-winning filmmaker with over 20 years of experience creating impactful content for global media networks and NGOs. Most recently, she served as Executive Director of Development for ABC/Disney in New York, representing the company at major events like Tribeca, Sundance, DOC NYC and TIFF. A member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and a proud board member of FilmAid Kenya, Amelia has also served on selection committees for Hot Docs, The Television Academy, and the International Documentary Association. She is the CEO and Founder of Tell2C Productions a global collective of award winning female filmmakers for change, and truly believes in the power of our stories to inspire, engage, and connect us all.
Berke Göl is a freelance film critic, editor and film programmer based in Berlin. Born in Istanbul in 1980, he studied psychology at Bogazici University and received a master’s degree in Cultural Studies from Istanbul Bilgi University. He started working in Turkey’s leading independent film magazine Altyazı in 2003, where he served as editor-in-chief from 2015 to 2022. He is a member of FIPRESCI and the Turkish Film Critics Association (SIYAD). He edited and contributed to numerous books, mostly on cinema in Turkey. He served as a FIPRESCI jury member at numerous film festivals. Since 2022, he has been part of the selection committee for Berlinale’s Panorama section.
For years Daniel worked in the audiovisual department of Amnesty International, mainly as archivist and editor. He often did odd jobs for Movies that Matter and after his time at Amnesty he was asked to join the selection committee. Daniel currently works at the Utrecht University Library and is one of the programmers at a small arthouse cinema near Utrecht.
Federico Cadalanu is a film programmer and critic, currently Programming Coordinator at MIA, Italy’s main audiovisual market. Starting in November, he will pursue a PhD at the University of Bologna, focusing on the social impact of audiovisual media on audiences. He has written for the Italian branch of The Hollywood Reporter and other publications. In the Netherlands, he studied Preservation & Presentation of the Moving Image at the University of Amsterdam and has been watching movies that matter since 2021.
Jochem Kleinjan holds a BA in Philosophy from the University of Amsterdam, a BA in Film and Literary Studies from Leiden University and has recently graduated cum laude from the MA Film and Photographic Studies at Leiden. His thesis explored cinematic ways of portraying precarious lives in Asian cinema, entitled “Portraying and Producing Precarity: Cinematic Precarious Ordering, Distancing and Intimacy of Precarious Asian Lives”. Jochem has been affiliated with MtM since 2021, first as an intern, later as a viewing committee member. His cinematic interests include: precarity, labour, migrants, (contemporary) colonialism and world cinema (especially East and Southeast Asian cinema).
Joris van den Einden (b. 2000) is a Dutch photographer, filmmaker, and researcher, based in The Hague. His research focuses on an intuitive, yet reflective and critical practice of making-visible; what does it really mean to ‘capture’ an image? What does a photograph or film reveal, and what does it conceal? Since 2022, he has been writing and taking photos for art magazine Metropolis M. Other clients include RADIUS Center for Art & Ecology, No Man’s Art Gallery, ARIAS, the Dutch Ministry of Justice, among others. In his free time, he enjoys being outside and smiling.
Katarína has five years of experience serving as a selection committee member for the Activist Film Competition at Movies that Matter. Additionally, she has been a Film Programmer at the One World International Documentary Film Festival in Slovakia for three years. In this role, she carefully selects films not only for general audiences but also tailors them to specific groups, such as the deaf and hard of hearing, the blind and partially sighted, young parents and children, the elderly, and individuals without homes, ensuring everyone has equal access to a quality movie-watching experience. Katarína is passionate about initiating discussions on human rights-related themes and is actively involved in presenting films and leading post-screening discussions at international film festivals.
Lidija Zelovic was born 1970 in Yugoslavia, has got a BA in Yugoslav literature and Serbo-Croatian language at the University of Sarajevo and an MA for Film and Television sciences at University of Amsterdam. She has been working as an independent filmmaker ever since, mostly for Dutch, but also for British, German and other international media. Lidija has had a role in numerous film selecting committees as an external expert.
Marguerite is a filmmaker born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. Marguerite works in several fields of the film industry, from production to academia. Marguerite works as an assistant director, editor and a programmer and a selection committee member focusing on short films. In 2022, she finished her MA in Montage in FAMU where she specialized in editing animation and documentary as well as making experimental films. FAMU is where she currently works as a lecturer specialising on short films, film grammar, humanities, and montage.
Mohammad is a journalist specializing in cinema and Western media. Mohammad was born in Iraq and has been residing in the Netherlands for several years. He worked for numerous newspapers and online platforms in the Middle East and ha been contributing to Al Jazeera Documentary for the last 12 years. In recent years, he has shifted focus to video content creation, directing both short films and long documentary. Mohammad is a member of the Circle of Dutch Film Journalists.
Sevara Pan is on the Activist Committee of Movies that Matter. She is a freelance film critic and journalist, working in the documentary field with a special focus on human rights, social justice, and activism. She writes for such industry publications as the International Documentary Association's Documentary Magazine, Modern Times Review, and Cineuropa. She is a Program Advisor at IDFA. In 2023, she served as a jury member for the EU-initiated project Support to EU Film Festivals, implemented by Cineuropa, Institut Français, and Goethe-Institut.
Vess Chua is a film programmer and producer based in Singapore. She is currently the Programme Executive at the Singapore International Film Festival, where she programmes for the Southeast Asian Short Film Competition section and the Singapore Panorama section. She is also the Festival Manager of the Singapore Youth Film Festival. She is also on the viewing committee for Movies That Matter (NL) for the Take on Future and Take on Love thematic sections. Her research investigates the implications of historical legacies and collective anxieties on the re-orientation of self and identity. Previously, she contributed to the Perspectives Film Festival, first as a Programmer in 2018, then as the Festival Director in 2019.
Wambui Gathee is a Kenyan director, producer, film curator, and freelance photographer. She serves as Screenings Manager and Film Curator at Docubox, curating award-winning documentaries and short fiction films for events like Shorts, Shorts & Shots. Her short film Love Zawadi earned her multiple awards, while she produced the internationally recognized film Blurred. Wambui is an alumni of various film labs and academies, and has served as a jury member for film competitions. She is passionate about visual storytelling and continues to hone her skills in curating, programming, and producing impactful films.
