Internship: Audience Marketing & Engagement
Join our marketing team from 1 September 2026 as an Audience Marketing & Engagement intern and discover what goes into the marketing department of a film festival.
At Movies that Matter, we use film as a powerful tool to highlight injustice and make the world a better place. Every year we organize the Movies that Matter Festival in The Hague, one of the world’s leading human rights film festivals, attracting around 24,000 visitors annually.
What will you do?
As a marketing intern Audience & Engagement, you will help attract audiences to our film festival. You contribute to targeted campaigns to reach new audiences and retain returning visitors. You will think creatively with the marketing team and, during the festival, you will be right in the middle of the organisation.
You will be given a lot of freedom in your role. Have a good idea? We encourage you to take it forward. Together with the content marketing intern and two year round colleagues, you form the MarCom team. You will learn a lot about campaigns, audiences, collaboration, and gain a unique behind-the-scenes look at a multi-day international film festival.
In short – this is what you will do:
- You write and analyse email campaigns
- You actively contribute ideas to the marketing team regarding the festival campaign and creative concepts
- You conduct audience analyses for film programs and the festival as a whole, identify suitable social accounts and reporters, and maintain contact with them
- You support PR activities and assist with press requests
- You conduct interviews for the film routes and write articles for our magazine
- During the festival, you work behind the scenes: from photo scheduling to supporting the video and press team
Who are you?
You are eager to apply the marketing knowledge you have gained during your studies in practice and contribute to a meaningful festival. You do not need to be a marketing expert yet. Curiosity, proactivity, creativity, and motivation are just as important to us.
You enjoy working independently but also function well in a team. You like contributing ideas, are not afraid to ask questions, and have an eye for what others need. You are resilient under pressure, work well with deadlines, and thrive in a dynamic working environment where we work together towards a highlight: our nine-day festival in The Hague. And it’s a big plus if you also have a passion for film and social issues.
What do we offer?
- The opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the marketing of a large and meaningful event (it is a very diverse internship)
- Good supervision and a full membership of the marcom team. Since 2023, Movies that Matter has also been an SBB-recognised training company.
- Being part of a passionate team committed to an unforgettable film festival
- An internship allowance of €300–€400. If you are not doing the internship through an educational program, you will receive a volunteer allowance of €210 per month. Lunch and expenses are reimbursed.
- During the festival, we provide accommodation in The Hague if you do not live there, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Period and working days
- Internship period: 1 September to the end of April 2027.
- Working days: This means 16 to 20 hours per week, usually spread over 2 to 3 days. Exact days will be agreed upon in consultation, as well as the possibility of (partly) working from home.
- Festival period: You must be available from 19 to 27 March 2027 in The Hague
- Location: Our office is located in Amsterdam, in the Amnesty International building. From January onwards, we also work regularly in The Hague, from Theater aan het Spui.
