Vacancy: International Support Internship
Movies that Matter aims to broaden perspectives on human rights. We use film to stimulate dialogue about a just world, influence public opinion, and encourage engagement with social issues and a sustainable society. We do this through the annual Movies that Matter Festival, educational screenings for students and pupils, and by organizing year-round events and screenings throughout the Netherlands. In countries where human rights and press freedom are under pressure, we support film festivals and mobile film projects through grants, workshops, training, and advice.
We are looking for an intern for the International Support Programme (24 hours per week), starting 1 September
Through the International Support Programme, we promote the screening of human rights films in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. This is done through grants, advice, workshops, and network building. Internationally, we stimulate film screenings and debates, for example by offering a curated film package for Dutch embassies worldwide in connection with International Human Rights Day. In addition, we coordinate the Human Rights Film Network, a global network of more than 50 human rights film festivals.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the (project administration of the) grant programme: entering data into the project database, reading and assessing project reports;
- Support the execution of the film menu for Dutch embassies for screenings around International Human Rights Day (December 10): liaising with rights holders and interested embassies, tracking applications;
- Assist in organizing the annual meeting and brunch of the Human Rights Film Network during IDFA;
- Contribute to the external communication of the International Support Programme (writing content for the website, social media, and newsletter);
- Other administrative and organizational tasks supporting Movies that Matter activities.
Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor’s level of thinking and working (preferably with an international focus in your academic background);
- Accurate and able to work independently;
- Demonstrated interest in human rights and/or press freedom;
- Affinity with film;
- You are based in The Netherlands during the internship;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of Dutch is a plus.
We offer
A fun and dynamic work environment, the opportunity to gain work experience in a socially engaged and cultural organization, good supervision, and a volunteer/internship allowance.
Location
Our office is located in the Amnesty International building at Keizersgracht 177 in Amsterdam. During the internship, you will work two days in the office and one day from home. Therefore, the internship requires you to be located in the Netherlands.
Duration
The International Support internship runs from 1 September to 31 December 2025, with a possible extension until the Movies that Matter Festival (March 2026), in consultation. Working days are flexible and can be discussed.
