Every month, Filmhuis Den Haag and Movies that Matter team up to put one compelling new release in the spotlight. With First Pick, you get to be one of the first to see it on the big screen, then dive deeper as soon as the credits roll. For our first edition, we are screening Sugar by Amira Duynhouwer.
Chyna is the neighborhood’s top stylist. In the hair salon she runs with her sisters, she is admired not only for her talent but also because she is Raoul’s girlfriend; the man everyone desires. Behind closed doors, however, the relationship is not what it seems. As Raoul becomes more violent, Chyna realizes more and more that she will have to break with everything she has ever known. For her own safety and that of her little daughter, Sugar. As Chyna gathers her courage, one thing becomes painfully clear: Raoul isn’t letting her go easily.
