Halloween night, a deserted town, and a mysterious girl on a skateboard. On Saturday 31 October, Movies that Matter and Inter-City screen Ana Lily Amirpour’s stylish, hypnotic vampire film: A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.
In the fictional town of Bad City, The Girl roams the streets alone after dark. When she crosses paths with Arash, a young man struggling with his father’s addiction and debts, an unexpected connection begins to grow.
But Bad City is a place where women are expected to stay out of sight and where violence and exploitation are part of everyday life. The Girl has a different way of moving through the world. She walks alone at night, follows men home and turns the usual horror story on its head.
