Alles moet beter

Dikla Zeidler

World premiere

Alles moet beter (Do Better) portrays what it is like to grow up in a world shaped by systemic crises. The film follows several young people who are each affected by this failure in different ways, and traces their search for how things can—or must—be done better.

Sam (27) is facing trial for actions linked to Extinction Rebellion, after her municipality suspended her from her job as a civil servant last year because of her activism. Ruben (24) has been stuck in legal limbo for over a year, awaiting the outcome of his case after leaking information, as a PvdA council committee member in Dordrecht, about a possible deal with the polluting company Chemours. Rohan (23) is locked in an ongoing struggle to secure appropriate support. As a ‘child of the benefits scandal’, he receives little help from his municipality, The Hague, despite being entitled to assistance.

Linked by the energy of protest music from artists including Hang Youth, Ploegendienst, Sef, Sophie Straat and YoungRubbi, their personal battles become part of a larger call for accountability and change. Can the younger generation make a difference in a world that was designed before them?
