What if the man who raised you like a father was also one of the most infamous warlords in history? When Cindor Reeves was a teenager, his sister married Charles Taylor, who would later become President of Liberia. As an adult, Cindor broke the silence – at great personal cost.

When teenage Cindor Reeves’s sister Agnes married him, Charles Taylor was an idealistic populist rebel. However, he quickly established an authoritarian regime after he secured Liberia’s presidency. In his youth, Cindor Reeves provided support to the regime of President Taylor. But as an adult, guided by his strong sense of right and wrong, he became a whistleblower.

Cindor Reeves’ testimony and knowledge played a pivotal role in securing Taylor’s conviction at the International Criminal Court. It made Taylor the first former President to be convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity since World War II. Living in hiding since Charles Taylor’s conviction, and labelled a snitch and a traitor by Taylor’s supporters, Cindor Reeves now reflects on his life, questioning whether the personal sacrifices he has made were truly worth the cost.
