The Brink of Dreams

Nada Riyadh, Ayman El Amir

In a remote village in southern Egypt, a group of girls defy tradition by forming an all-female street theater troupe. Aspiring to be actresses, dancers, and singers, they challenge their families and community with their bold performances. Shot over four years, we follow their journey from childhood to womanhood, as they navigate the most defining choices of their lives.

With their performances, the Panorama Barsha Troupe addresses themes such as patriarchy, early marriage and the struggle for self-determination. Over four years, filmmakers Nada Riyadh and Ayman El Amir closely follow these courageous girls as they transition from adolescence to adulthood. The film explores the complex and varied ways in which each girl navigates growing up, forming romantic relationships, and confronting the social expectations of womanhood.

The Brink of Dreams tells a touching and engaging coming-of-age story about female solidarity and youthful defiance, as feminist empowerment and big dreams collide with the tough realities of life.
