The Coriolis Effect

Petr Lom

Dutch Focus World premiere

Set in Cape Verde, ‘the place where hurricanes are born’. The Coriolis Effect is a poetic documentary about our world spinning out of control. With stunning footage of the Cape Verdean nature and wildlife, this cinematographically impressive film deals with the increasingly disturbing relation between humankind and nature. World premiere.

A visually spectacular parable-like film that juxtaposes the struggle of humans and animals facing the coming storm of climate change and uncontrollable pollution. Filmed on the archipelago of Cape Verde, also known as the place where hurricanes are born, a recurring narrative thread is sea turtles. Cape Verde has one of the world’s largest nesting grounds for the animal. And if temperatures continue to rise, then all the sea turtles will hatch as females, leading to the species’ extinction.
