A Feathered Memory

Ida Does

International premiere

A poetic documentary about Brazilian Indigenous artist and human rights activist Daiara Tukano, a member of the Tukano people from the Amazon. As she creates a monumental mural at the Mauritshuis in The Hague, a layered story unfolds – one that connects the colonial history of the Netherlands with the living wisdom of the Amazon.

The film follows Tukano between The Hague and Brazil, as she reflects on art, spirituality, and the struggle for Indigenous rights. Her work revives forgotten voices and builds a spiritual bridge between continents. The return of the centuries-old Tupinambá feather mantle, once taken by Johan Maurits and recently repatriated from Denmark to Brazil, becomes a powerful symbol of memory, restitution, and resistance.

Combining lyrical imagery, intimate encounters, and fragments of Tukano’s poem To Be Forest, the film explores how art can heal and bear witness. A Feathered Memory (Uma Memória Emplumada) is a journey through time and consciousness – a dialogue between past and future, museum and forest, colonial legacy and the enduring strength of Indigenous female wisdom.
