Mohammad Rasoulof

Grand Jury Fiction

Iman is an investigative judge in the Revolutionary Court in Tehran. As the Iranian anti-hijab protests explode, he clashes with his wife and daughters. And then his gun mysteriously disappears, making him grapple with mistrust and paranoia.

Iman is an ambitious lawyer who has just been promoted at the Revolutionary Court. But the promotion immediately brings tension when Iman, a decent man, discovers he is expected to rubber-stamp death-penalty judgments without reading the evidence. He is also issued a handgun, for his family’s protection.

When the anti-hijab protests explode in Iran, Iman clashes with his feminist daughters Rezvan and Sana. Then his gun suddenly disappears, and he suspects the women in his family. He imposes drastic measures at home, causing tensions to rise. Step by step, social norms and the rules of family life are being suspended. Courageous film by exiled director Mohammad Rasoulof, who in Iran faces a prison sentence and flogging.
