Union

Brett Story, Stephen Maing

The Amazon Labor Union (ALU) –  a group of current and former Amazon workers in New York City’s Staten Island – takes on one of the world’s largest and most powerful companies in the fight to unionize.

In 2021, Chris Smalls co-founded a grassroots movement to organise Amazon employees in a warehouse on Staten Island, from which he’d been fired for objecting to poor safety protocols. However, Amazon is staunchly anti-union, and not afraid to use its money and muscle against dissenting employees.

Smalls – a father of three – is eager to improve conditions for those who still work 11-hour days at Amazon, with hardly any breaks. He teams up with Amazon workers like Maddie, a young white college graduate, and Natalie, a tough Latina who has lived out of her car for years. However, their battle is an uphill one, with both the company and personal conflicts getting in the way.
