Day of De Groene

On Sunday 24 March, De Groene Amsterdammer presents specially curated programmes around two films.

Phantom Parrot
On his way home from a research trip, civil rights activist Muhammad Rabbani is questioned at the London airport. When he refuses to give the passwords to his electronic devices, he is threatened with imprisonment. Portrait of a dedicated defender of privacy, and of the far-reaching surveillance powers of governments. After the screening, journalist Eva Hofman speaks with Cerie Bullivant of CAGE international.

Russia vs Laywers
The job of lawyer has become truly dangerous in Russia. More than three hundred lawyers have been killed over the past two decades. Half of these cases remain unsolved. Lauded filmmaker Masha Novikova follows human rights lawyers in their daily life, capturing their hopes and doubts. After the screening, Raymond van den Boogaard will talk to Karinna Moskalenko, one of Russia’s leading human rights lawyers.
