Cold War

Pawel Pawlikowski

Compelling love story by director and screenwriter Pawel Pawlikowski (Oscar winner: Ida and My Summer of Love). In 1950s Poland, it is love at first sight for Wiktor and Zula. Despite their passionate romance, they are separated by politics and setbacks.

In his search for young performers for an ensemble that plays Polish folklore, musician Wiktor finds himself drawn to young, free-spirited Zula. They immediately feel a strong attraction to each other, but constantly seem to be on the run between east and west. They cannot live without each other, or with each other. Cold War presents an impossible love in an impossible time. The film was selected for the Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival, where Pawlikowski was awarded the prize of Best Director. Starring Joanna Kulig and Tomasz Kot from Poland, with a supporting role for actress Agata Kulesza (known from Ida).
