When 20-year-old Daniel is released on parole from a Polish youth detention centre, he bluffs his way into becoming the priest of a local church in a small village. Gradually, he wins the people’s confidence. Intriguing film about second chances and getting to terms with the past.
The old village priest would only be absent for a few days to receive treatment for his alcohol addiction. At first, Daniel is somewhat uneasy about his new job, improvising a worship service and hearing his first confession with the help of Google. The longer his mandate lasts, though, the more he gets to know the village people, and he discovers a tragic event that has left its mark on the village.
Bartosz Bielenia won several prizes for his intense performance playing Daniel, whose past and motives long remain shrouded in mystery. His secret unfolds in layered dialogues with the village dwellers and exhilarating scenes that contain a great deal of humour.
