In a Better World

Susanne Bier

After the death of his mother, Christian moves from England to Denmark with his father and ends up in a new school. He becomes friends with the bullied outsider Elias. Heart-warming Oscarwinning drama, directed by Susanne Bier, in which moral dilemmas about loss and sorrow and about revenge and forgiveness take centre stage.

When Elias and Christian witness a confrontation between Elias’ peaceful father and an aggressive man, Christian involves his friend in a dangerous act of revenge with potentially tragic consequences. Then an accident sheds new light on the relation between the boys and their parents, and makes Elias’ father realise that he will have to build a bridge between two worlds: his work as a doctor in needy Africa and his family life in Denmark, where his loving presence is just as badly needed.
