In the Land of Blood and Honey

Angelina Jolie

Directing debut by Angelina Jolie about the impossible love between Serbian Danijel and Bosnian Alja during the Balkan War.

Serbian national Danijel meets Bosnian Alja on the dance floor. Their romance is suddenly disturbed by a bomb attack. The year is 1993 and the Bosnian war rages. Being the son of a high-ranked Serbian officer, Danijel is conscripted. At the other end of the conflict, Alja is soon interned in a camp for Bosnian Muslims where rape and torture are rife… and where Danijel turns out to be one of the camp guards. To protect his tender love, he asks Alja to draw portraits of his fellow soldiers. However, the war soon puts their passionate love affair to the test. In the Land of Blood and Honey shows how the war takes its toll, both emotionally, physically and morally.
