The Miseducation of Cameron Post

Desiree Akhavan

When Cameron Post (Chloë Grace Moretz) is caught kissing a girl at a school dance, her foster parents send her to an institution to eradicate her homosexual feelings. A scintillating screen adaptation of a book set in the 1990s in the USA.

The camp houses all sorts of boys and girls whose parents have decided they aren’t normal. Psychotherapy, discipline and various other dubious methods are used to make the children understand why they are attracted to the same gender and how they should get rid of that attraction. They should be able to manage with God’s help, lots of prayer, and by suppressing desires and emotions... At least, according to camp management. For the teenagers, all of it is mostly confusing: some try to follow the rules no matter what it costs, while others reject the bizarre ideology. For Cameron, the institution turns out to be an excellent place to meet other ‘outcasts’. A beautiful coming-of-age film about friendship, identity and the right to be yourself.
