A Perfect Day

Fernando León de Aranoa

A group of humanitarian aid workers tries to save the water supply of an abandoned community in a Bosnian war zone. Humour, drama, love, danger and hope all come together on a perfect day.

In the dying days of the Bosnian war a group of humanitarian aid workers tries to save the water supply of an abandoned community, after a body is found inside the last water well that is still operational. Obviously, the dead man has to be pulled up. But that is not such a simple task.

The aid workers have no more than 24 hours before the water source, vital to the local population, is irremediably contaminated. The tensions between the members of the team make things even more complicated. Newcomer Sophie (Melanie Thierry) does everything she can to help, but old hand Mambrú (Benicio Del Toro) would rather return home. Katya (Olga Kurylenko) only has eyes for Mambrú, while interpreter Damir (Fedja Stukan) wants the war to be over. And war veteran B. (Tim Robbins) doesn’t have a clue what he really wants.

This black comedy movie, based on the Spanish novel Dejarse Llover by Paula Farias, won the 2015 Film by the Sea Award.
