The Six Billion Dollar Man

Eugene Jarecki

Gripping account of Julian Assange’s rise, fall and protracted seven-year limbo inside the Ecuadorian embassy. With unprecedented access and previously unseen behind-the-scenes material, the film spans five continents, weaving groundbreaking new evidence into an international high-tech spy thriller of secrets, espionage, torture and murder.

The Six Billion Dollar Man is a riveting investigation into Julian Assange, a lightning rod of contemporary journalism, whose 2024 release from prison has reignited the global debate on press freedom. With his initially modest start-up WikiLeaks in the mid-2000s, Julian Assange quickly grew into one of the biggest enemies of governments worldwide wanting to keep their operations shrouded in mystery. With WikiLeaks, whistleblowers could release diplomatic and military secretsanonymously and on an industrial scale for the first time in history.

After the release of the ‘Collateral Damage’ video – showing US forces slaughtering unarmed civilians in Iraq – Assange came under increasing scrutiny from authorities. The Six Billion Dollar Man shows the incredible twists and turns the storyof Julian Assange has made since then. From his seven year paranoid spell as a refugee in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, to a high-security British prison and his 2024 release and return to his native Australia. With special appearances by many colourful characters, ranging from Pamela Anderson to a sociopathic teen hacker from Iceland.
