Margje de Koning is invited to join The Academy
Along with other Dutch nationals Halina Reijn, Victoria Warmerdam, Trent and Nina Gantz, Margje de Koning, artistic director of Movies that Matter, has been invited to join the organisation that awards the Oscars every year. 27 June, 2025
Besides having been a documentary filmmaker herself, De Koning has also contributed greatly to the international documentary film industry as an editor-in-chief and executive producer. For this reason, she received the invitation to join this select and prestigious ensemble. Margje de Koning: “I feel very honoured to be able to use my knowledge and experience to help determine the best documentaries of the past year. My special focus is on films on the cutting edge of powerful cinematography and important stories, capable of moving people.”
Previously, Dutch film professionals such as director Paul Verhoeven, cameraman Hoyte van Hoytema, make-up artist Arjen Tuiten, stuntman Willem de Beukelaer and costume designer Jany Temime have been admitted to the Academy.
