In the brand new Movies that Matter podcast we dive deep into the stories, people and human rights issues behind the films screened at our festival. In this first episode we share a conversation with Tommy Gulliksen, the director of the film Facing War, recorded live in The Hague at our 2025 festival. The conversation was moderated by Nicole Sprokel, former Senior Political Affairs Officer at Amnesty International Netherlands. by Staff 18 June, 2025

Facing War (winner of the Grand Jury Documentary Award) offers a unique behind the scenes look at Jens Stoltenbergs final year of leadership at NATO. With unprecedented access to NATO’s inner workings, the documentary follows Stoltenberg as he navigates high-stakes diplomacy, balancing the demands of world leaders like Biden, Macron, Zelensky, Erdoğan, and Orbán. As Western support for Ukraine fractures, he must rally NATO’s members and prevent the alliance from splintering under political pressure. A highly relevant film, which presents an urgent exploration of diplomacy, democracy, and global security in a moment of profound uncertainty. Can Stoltenberg keep his word to Zelensky?
