During the festival, visitors indicate how they rate the film via voting cards after a film screening. The final score will determine which filmmaker receives the Movies that Matter Audience Award. Voting is possible until 31 March and your vote is anonymous.

During the Best of #MtMF23 day, the winning film will be screened one more time and the filmmaker will receive the Audience Award worth €5,000.

The Movies that Matter Audience Award 2023 was won by: Aurora’s Sunrise by Inna Sahakyan.

An epic reconstruction of the story of Aurora Mardiganian and the Armenian genocide. A beautiful animation shows Mardiganian’s odyssey from surviving the genocide to having her story made into a Hollywood production in 1919. Interspersed with archival interviews with her and scenes from the original movie, which for decades was thought to be lost.

The Movies that Matter Audience Award 2023 is supported by the ASN Bank.
