Shorts: ROOTS x MtM
The ROOTS Film Festival by Filmhuis Den Haag provides a platform for filmmakers based in The Hague. In the lead-up to Movies that Matter Film Festival 2025, we selected three films from the ROOTS programme that resonate with our festival’s mission – films that inspire dialogue on pressing global issues. This special shorts block will be screened once on Monday 24 March, including a Q&A.

After the screening and Q&A, four shorts by Frames without Borders – 84-hour Film Project will be screened in the same room. You can also see these shorts with your ticket for the ROOTS x MtM screening.
In this unique filmmaking challenge, film students from Lyon (France) and Breda (Netherlands) team up to create compelling short films—all within just 84 hours. Featuring talented actors and actresses with disabilities from both countries, these films transcend creative boundaries, focusing on storytelling, creativity, and collaboration to bring a shared vision to life. Frames without Borders is a collaborative programme involving St. Joost School of Art & Design, Université Lumière Lyon 2, the Wild Lam Foundation, the Festival International du Film sur les Handicaps, and Movies that Matter.
